I have a lot of trips and a lot of plans this summer! Between weddings, planned vacations, and moving, I’m not sure I will be able to fit all of these hikes into the summer of 2018. So this bucket list will very likely stretch into Summer 2019 just so I can avoid general stress and fatigue.
One of my vacations will be to the islands of Kauai and O’ahu in Hawai’i, so I have listed three hikes in my bucket list below! I am visiting Hawai’i as a wedding guest for a week with my boyfriend being a groomsman, so I kept my Hawai’i list short in case there are a lot of plans with the bridal/groom parties each day.
Some of these hikes will include a waterfall, and some of them will not. I am not very experienced as a hiker, so most (if not all) of these will be day hikes. I have been camping before, but I am not looking to bite off more than I can chew when it comes to hiking and finding great views.
I am hoping I will be in good enough health and shape to take them on when I plan on it! I am currently dealing with patellar tendinitis in both knees, which makes stairs and hills painful at the moment. They seem to feel better with more exercise though! I ran an 8K this past weekend and did not push myself to take long strides or hard sprints, and my knees have been feeling a lot better this week. I am hopeful that with more strengthening and conditioning, I will be back in shape for these hikes.
Here are the list of my bucket list hikes! They are in western Washington and the two most western islands of Hawai’i:
- Poo Poo Point on Tiger Mountain near Issaquah, WA
- Cherry Creek Falls near Duvall, WA
- Mailbox Peak near North Bend, WA
- Mount Rainier, WA
- Myrtle Falls one the way to Mount Rainier
- Twin Falls near North Bend, WA
- Storm King near Port Angeles, WA
- Makaleha Falls in Kauai, Hawai’i
- Laie Falls in O’ahu, Hawai’i
- Koko Head Crater Trail in O’ahu, Hawai’i
